As the campus community continues this discussion about sexual violence prevention and response, Dissenting Voices encourages all students to reach out to their support networks and take advantage of the resources that are available to help. We have compiled a list of organizations and groups that can offer emotional support and other forms of assistance to concerned students, survivors, friends, and members of the campus community.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

  • You have the right to live and learn in environments free from your assailant (dorms, classrooms, work, etc.)

  • Survivors are entitled to cost-free accommodations (counseling, tutoring, changes to housing, etc.) under Title IX.

  • You do not need to suffer the financial burden of your school’s mistakes. If the school fails to take prompt and effective steps to eliminate violence and prevent its recurrence, they may be required to reimburse lost tuition and related expenses.

  • Federal Title IX Complaints must be filed within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination (may be extended for good cause)

L.U.N.A. (Latino/a Resources & Victim Support)

“L.U.N.A. began with a group of volunteer survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse from the Latino community who felt that there was a better way to serve other Latino survivors after not being understood by mainstream organizations because of language, culture, and legal barriers with the overall goal of offering culturally specific services. ... The mission of L.U.N.A. is to empower, educate, and advocate for victims/survivors of domestic and sexual assault in our community, so that they may build futures free from violence. Domestic violence impacts all communities and is a serious problem.  However, each community is unique and has different barriers.  Our staff are knowledgeable on the barriers that Latino survivors face including legal status, language, and lack of resources.  They work alongside the survivor to educate them on the various systems (legal, court, law enforcement, etc) and empower them to make their own decisions about their healing process using a client centered and trauma informed approach.”
